Theraphosa stirmi, or the Burgundy Goliath Birdeater, is a large, terrestrial tarantula from South America known for its deep burgundy color and impressive size, making it a popular but demanding species for experienced keepers. They are nocturnal burrowers that require deep substrate, high humidity, and warm temperatures, and while their venom is mild, they defend themselves with large fangs and irritating urticating hairs. 

Key Characteristics

Appearance: Heavy-bodied with a rich, burgundy-brown color and reddish hairs on the legs and abdomen. 

Size: One of the world's largest tarantulas, with a leg span that can reach up to 11 inches. 

Lifespan: Females can live 20-30 years, while males live 3-6 years. 

Temperament: Generally timid but defensive when threatened, using hissing (stridulation) and flicking urticating hairs.
