The Pumpkin Patch Tarantula (Hapalopus sp. Colombia, formerly Hapalopus formosus) is a popular dwarf tarantula species native to Colombia. It is highly sought after by keepers for its small size, bold orange-and-black abdominal markings (resembling a pumpkin patch), and fast growth rate.Key FactsSize: Small "dwarf" species. The "Klein" (small) form reaches about 2 to 2.5 inches, while the "Groot" (large) form can grow up to 3 to 4 inches.Lifespan: Females live about 8 to 10 years; males have a shorter lifespan of 3 to 4 years.Temperament: They are generally docile but can be very skittish and quick to flee into their tunnels.
