Heterometrus spinifer, commonly known as the Asian forest scorpion, is a large, black scorpion from Southeast Asia, popular in the pet trade due to its docile nature and non-lethal venom, which causes pain but not typically death in humans. It is characterized by its shiny black body, large pincers (pedipalps), and reddish-brown stinger tip, preferring humid, tropical forest habitats where it burrows under logs and leaf litter. 

Physical Characteristics

Size: Adults typically reach 3.5 to 6 inches in length. 

Color: Shiny black, with a reddish-brown telson (stinger). 

Features: Large, powerful pincers (pedipalps) used for catching prey, and sensory hairs (pectines) to feel surroundings.
