Brachypelma emilia, or the Mexican Redleg Tarantula, is a popular, docile, and hardy tarantula known for its striking black and orange/red coloration, including a distinct black triangle on its tan carapace. Native to Mexico's Pacific coast, it's a terrestrial burrower suitable for beginners due to its calm temperament, though it can flick urticating hairs when threatened. Females are long-lived, often exceeding 20 years, while males have shorter lifespans.
Appearance
Color: Black body, reddish-orange "knees" (patella), and a light tan carapace with a prominent black triangle.
Size: Females reach about 5-6 inches in leg span; males are slightly smaller.
